Most of the monster designs are exact replicas of existing Pokemon. You start off as a plucky kid with a single monster to your name and set out to conquer all of the gyms. Along the way, you battle wild monsters to add more to your collection and train against opponents to level up your monsters. The big difference here is that Trainer Canyon offers full multiplayer. You'll find other characters walking around the map that you can interact with and challenge to a fight, and live game elements have been incorporated to keep you coming back for more. Daily challenges and other events provide you with plenty of rewards, while PvP combat helps you test out your strategies and prove your worth against other players. There's even a city building and resource management element to keep the grind going.
